85th Fighter Wing

Development of Aircraft Warning and Control

Development of aircraft warning and control facilities will be employed in three phases, which has been coordinated with the Ground Forces Plan, and will be in accordance with the following:

(1) Phase no. 1

(a) Headquarters Wing Detachment "H", 85th Fighter Wing will land near Palo (11°10' N - 124°59'E) on A-day at H+4 and immediately establish liaison with the Ground Task Force Commander for the installation of aircraft warning units. The command officer, Headquarters Wing Detachment "H" will act as representative of the Commanding Officer, 85th Fighter Wing.

(b) The Assault Echelon Detach "B", 49th Fighter Control Squadron will land in the vicinity of Palo on A-day at H+4 and prepare for the establishment of air-ground communication for the control of aircraft

(c) The Assault Echelon, Hq and Plotting Platoon, Company "C" 583rd Signal AW Bn, will land in the vicinity of Palo on A-day at H+4 and establish point to point communication with reporting units so as to receive and plot aircraft warning information.

(d) The 16th Reporting Platoon Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 635) will land near Palo on A-day and will become operational as soon as possible, providing three hundred sixty (360) degree coverage.

(e) The 14th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 633) will land at Palo and be transshipped on A-day to Homonhon Island at Barapdaban Point (10°42' N - 125°48' E), and will become operational as soon as possible, giving coverage to the East.

(f) RS 860 (SCR-682), 6th Army, will be installed on Homonhon Island at Barapdaban Point on A-day and will become operational as soon as possible giving low-angle coverage to the East. RS 850 will install a wire line to RS 633, also on Homonhon Island, and tell all reports to that station, which will relay reports to the FCC.

(g) The 15th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 634) will land at Palo and be transshipped on A-day to Desolation Point on Dinagat Island (10°28' N - 125°38' E), and will become operational as soon as possible, giving coverage to the North.

(h) RS 861 (SCR-682), 6th Army, will be installed at Desolation Point on Dinagat Island on A-day and will become operational as soon as possible, giving low angle coverage to the North. RS 861 will install a wire line to RA 634 also at Desolation Point, and tell all reports to that station.

(i) The 17th Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 636) will land on A-day at Liloan Point on Pan?on (sp) Island (10°10' N - 125°07' E), and will become operational as soon as possible, providing coverage to the Southwest.

(2) Phase no. 2

(a) The 13th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 632) will land near Palo on A + 2, to arrive at Babatngon (11°26' N - 124°50' E) on A + 3, and will become operational as soon as possible, providing coverage to the Northwest.

(b) The 10th Reporting Platoon, Co. "B", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 523) will land near Dulag (10°57' N - 125°02' E) on A + 2 and will begin GCI operation as soon as possible.

(c) The 8th Radar Calibration Detachment will land near Dulag on A + 2 and will begin calibrating radar stations as soon as the tactical situation permits, in the following priorities: 523, 850, 527, 851, 522, 852, 404, 407, and 413.

(d) The Rear Echelon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn with Plotting Platoon will land near Palo on A + 2 and establish the Leyte Fighter Control Center (Temporary) as soon as possible.

(e) The Rear Echelon, Detachment "B", 49th Fighter Control Squadron will land near Palo on A + 2 and will assist the Plotting Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn in establishing the Leyte Fighter Control Center (Temporary).

(f) The 18th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 583rd Signal AW Bn (RS 637) will land near Palo on A + 2 and will hold itself in readiness to replace any station if required.

(g) The 14th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 404) will land near San Richardo (09°55' N - 125°16' E) on A + 4 and will arrive at final destination on A + 5 becoming operational as soon as possible, providing early warning coverage to the Southwest.

(h) The 18th Reporting Platoon, Co. "C", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 527) will land near Dulag on A + 4 to arrive at Baybay (10° 40' N - 124° 48' E) on A + 5 going into GCI operation as soon as possible.

(i) RS 880 (SCR-584), 6th Army, will land near Dulag on A +4 to arrive at Baybay at A + 5, and will augment the tracking and height-finding facilities of RS 527.

(j) The Headquarters and Plotting Platoon, Co. "C", 574th Signal AW Bn will land near Dulag on A + 4, and establish the radar filter room of the Leyte Fighter Control Center (Permanent) becoming fully operational by A + 15.

(k) The 49th Fighter Control Sq (less Detachment "B"), will land near Dulag on A + 4, and establish the operations room of the Leyte Fighter Control Center (Permanent) becoming fully operational by A + 15.

(l) Adv Echelon Bn Hq and Hq Co "D", 583rd Signal AW Bn will land near Dulag on A + 4 and become operational as soon as possible.

(m) Hq and Hq Sq, 85th Fighter Wing will land near Dulag on A + 4, and will become operational as soon as possible.

(n) The 350th Signal Co Wing will land near Dulag on A +4, and become operational as soon as possible.

(o) Hq and Hq Co 574th SAW Bn will land near Dulag on A + 4, and become operational as soon as possible.

(3) Phase no. 3

(a) The 15th Reporting Platoon, Co "C", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 407 will land at Dulag on A + 4 to be transshipped to Daram Island, near San Jose (11° 43' N - 124° 43' E) on A + 10. It will furnish early warning coverage to the Northwest.

(b) The 17th Reporting Platoon, Co "C", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 522) will land near Dulag on A + 4, and will proceed to Jubay (11° 33' N = 124° 18' E) to arrive by A + 10, beginning GCI operation as soon as possible.

(c) RS 881 (SCR-584), 6th Army, will land near Dulag on A + 4, and will proceed to Jubay to arrive by A + 10. It will augment the tracking and height-finding facilities of RS 522.

(d) The 16th Reporting Platoon, Co "C", 574th Signal AW Bn (RS 413) will land near Dulag on A + 4, and will be transshipped to Ranis (sp) Point, Sugar Island (11° 21' N - 125° 38' E) to arrive by A + 15, providing early warning coverage to the East.

(e) Rear Echelon, Bn Hq and Hq Co "D" 583 SAW Bn will land near Dulag on A +25 becoming operational as soon as possible.

c. Troops of the XXIV Corps, Central Pacific Area will be employed as follows:

(1) RS 850 (SCR-527) will arrive at Homonhon Island on A + 1, and will begin GCI operation as soon as possible. RS 850 will install as wire line to RS 633, also located on Homonhon Island, and tell all reports to this station.

(2) RS 870 (SCR-270) will arrive at Desolation Point, Dinagat Island (10°28' N - 125° 38' E), on A + 1, and will provide early warning coverage to the North and East. RS 870 will install a wire line to RS 634, also at Desolation Point, and will tell all reports to that station.

(3) RS 851 (SCR-527) will land near Tanauan (11° 07' N - 125° 01' E) and will proceed to Carigara (11° 18' N - 124° 42' E), arriving not later than 4 + 10, and will begin GCI operation as soon as possible. FM communication will be established to the Leyte Fighter Control Center.

(4) RS 871 (SCR-270) will arrive at Guadelupe (10° 09' N - 124° 46' E) on A + 20, and will provide early warning coverage to the Southwest. RT/HF communication will be established to the Leyte Fighter Control Center.

(5) RS 852 (SCR-527) will arrive at Taancan Point (10° 04' N - 125° 02' E) on A + 20, and will commence GCI operation as soon as possible. RS 852 will establish FM communication to RS 404 at San Ricardo and will tell all reports to that station.

(6) RS 872 (SCR-270) will arrive at Palompon (11° 03' N - 124° 24' E) on A + 20, and will provide early warning coverage to the West. RT/HF communication will be established to Leyte Fighter Control Center and FM communication will be established to RS 853.

(7) RS 853 (SCR-527) will arrive near Santiago, Pacijan Island (10° 35' N - 124° 17' E) on A + 20, and will commence GCI operation as soon as possible. RS 853 will establish FM communication to RS 872 at Palompon and will tell all reports to that station.

(8) RS 873 (SCR-270) will arrive at Batag Island (12° 41' N - 125° 03' E) on A + 30, and will provide early warning coverage to the North. RT/HF communication will be established to the Leyte Fighter Control Center.
